Milka Milinković Memorial

Race for participants with disabilities or visual impairments

The Milka Milinković memorial race is a race for participants with disabilities or visual impairments whose willpower and motivation inspire us year after year and show us that we can accomplish anything if we try. Last year, the race had more than 700 participants. This year, we expect an even larger number at the Festival of Sports and Recreation, where we will all together celebrate a day without cars when sports and recreation rule all over Rijeka.

Milka Milinković (Sanski Most, April 7, 1955 – Rijeka, June 11, 2017), was a Croatian Paralympian and national team athlete in athletics. She was the only person in the world to compete in the Paralympic Games 10 times. She won eight Paralympic medals and earned Croatia's first Paralympic medal in history, a bronze in Barcelona. Her greatest achievement was winning gold at the Paralympics in Seoul, where she set a new Paralympic and world record in shot put with a throw of 6.05 meters. She was one of the founders of the Sports Society for the Disabled “Frankopan” from Kraljevica and served as president of the Sports Association for Persons with Disabilities in Rijeka.
